Dr. Morath has deep expertise in patent preparation and prosecution. As a registered United States Patent Attorney, Dr. Morath has successfully drafted and prosecuted patent applications in a variety of technical areas including biotechnology, biologics, immunotherapy and immunology, next generation sequencing, gene therapy, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and medical devices. He also has robust experience in the chemical space including explosives, plastics, printing, and cosmetics.

His doctorate in molecular biology allows him to quickly grasp complicated concepts and translate that understanding to the greatest benefit for his clients.

Dr. Morath delivers strategic insights to biotech and chemical clients throughout the world. This experience has given him the expertise to navigate the complexities of building and protecting global patent portfolios. Having prosecuted patents in most countries, he has learned the practical shortcuts to quickly obtain patents and establish protection.

In addition, Dr. Morath regularly prepares freedom-to-operate opinions (including non-infringement and invalidity) and conducts due diligence and other IP portfolio analytics.

Dr. Morath also helps clients resolve post-grant patent issues in United States and international patent offices, including proceedings in which third parties attempt to invalidate issued patents. Dr. Morath’s practice includes reissue applications, reexamination proceedings, and Inter Partes Reviews. He has further helped his clients successfully navigate foreign proceedings such as oppositions and third-party observations.
