“I help companies of any size create and build patent protection that provides defensive value and protects a company’s innovations.”
Expertise
As Managing Partner and Founder of Patent Law Works LLP, Greg brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the practice of patent law. He developed a new model of patent practice for providing intellectual property services that combine a smart combination of legal, technical, and business insights reflecting deep expertise. Greg’s new model for patent practice synthesizes his beliefs that with the ubiquity of the global marketplace, the growing complexity of patent laws in many geographic arenas, the old-world model of a practice addicted to billable hours and its guild mentality all result in the need to create a new model to provide premium quality patent services and strategic advice one would ordinarily expect from large general practice Silicon Valley tech law firms but more reasonably priced. (See firm overview).
His practice focus includes intellectual property strategic counseling, domestic and international patent prosecution, and intellectual property audits. Greg has been selected as one of the top 250 leading IP strategists in the world by IAM Strategy 250.
With more than 25 years’ experience in tech law firms, Greg’s practice ranges from strategic business and patent analysis to creating mid and long-term patent protection plans. Greg also conducts IP due diligence for investors and companies. Patent prosecution and pre-litigation counseling are also emphasized in his work. Greg’s clients include companies large and small in information technology. The technology areas include software, computer architecture, computer systems, communications, digital electronics, and semiconductors.
Greg’s clients have and do include several of Silicon Valley largest public companies, Fortune 500 Healthcare companies, Japanese multinational corporations, and some of the hottest startups in Silicon Valley.
Many of Greg’s startup clients are funded by top-tier Silicon Valley venture capital firms. However, Greg also takes by referral only a limited number of startup clients each year that are solo inventors or very small startups that are self-funded, family funded, or seed-stage angel-investor funded.
His management and leadership experience include founding an intellectual property boutique and serving as Managing Partner of Fenwick & West (A Silicon Valley Am Law 100 law firm) and Chair of the Patent Group at Fenwick & West.
Greg was elected a Super Lawyer and has taught seminars on patent strategy at the Patent Law Institute (PLI).
