Michael focuses on IP Operations at Patent Law Works, helping technology companies quickly and efficiently develop, protect, and leverage their patent assets. Michael has extensive experience in building patent portfolios for a wide range of technical fields, including computer software, electronics, electromechanical devices, digital healthcare, machine learning, and electronic media. He is a trusted advisor to executives, in-house counsel, and founders looking to create patent portfolios that support their business needs.

Michael’s practice includes strategic patent portfolio development, domestic and international patent prosecution, IP counseling, and evaluating risks from third-party patents. Michael’s extensive intellectual property diligence experience on both sides of M&A and financing transactions has strengthened his ability to provide maximum value to his clients. Michael has represented leading and established companies as well as startups on the path toward success.

Michael’s clients have included Facebook, Salesforce.com, RiskIQ (recently acquired by Microsoft), and Iris.TV.

Recognized as a Rising Star by SuperLawyers since 2019, Michael has served on the board of several bar associations, including Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom (BALIF), the largest and oldest LGBTQI+ bar association in the country, and Vietnamese American Bar Association of Northern California (VABANC). Michael also has served as a co-chair of the LGBT committee of the Asian American Bar Association – Bay Area (AABA) and on the conference planning committee of the National Conference of Vietnamese American Attorneys (NCVAA). Prior to joining Patent Law Works, Michael was an associate at Fenwick & West before moving in-house for Salesforce.com. More recently, he worked at several Silicon Valley IP boutiques while also becoming a committed community organizer and leader in San Francisco for LGBTQ+ & AAPI communities.
